Lila Burns Kennington



HEATH SPRINGS, SC:::::Mrs. Lila Burns Kennington, age 97, passed away Thursday, January 19, 2017 at Springs Memorial Hospital. She was born March 3, 1919 in Rock Hill, SC, the daughter of the late Rufus Edward Burns and Dolly Crosby Burns and the wife of the late William Franklin Kennington. She retired from Springs Industries after working as a weaver for many years. She loved the beach, her family, especially her grandchildren and enjoyed cooking. She was a longtime member of Calvary Baptist Church and an active member of Temple Baptist Church. She enjoyed participating in the Jolly Group and loved her Senior Saints Sunday School Class.

Mrs. Kennington is survived by a son, Danny Franklin Kennington and his wife, Lisa of Heath Springs; three daughters, Shirley K. Dixon and her husband, William of Lancaster, Brenda Blackmon of Lancaster, Barbara Roberts and her husband, Calvin, of Heath Springs; eight grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; and five great-great grandchildren.

Mrs. Kennington was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, William Kennington; two brothers, Saye Burns and James Burns; and two sisters, Helen Snipes, and Hattie Morris.

The Celebration of Life Funeral Service for Mrs. Kennington will be 11:00 am, Saturday, January 21, 2017 at Temple Baptist Church by Rev. Larry Plyler and Rev. Harold Owens. Burial will follow at Lancaster Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends 6:00-8:00 pm Friday, January 20, 2017 at Burgess Funeral Home, 1800 Charlotte Highway, Lancaster, SC and suggest memorial contributions be made to Temple Baptist Church Building Fund, 1214 Old Landsford Road, Lancaster, SC, 29720.
