James Oneal Barnes



LANCASTER, SC:::::::::::: Mr. James Oneal Barnes, age 89, died Saturday, April 15, 2017 at his home surrounded by his loved ones. He was born September 24, 1927 in Chester County, the son of the late John Barnes and Bessie Bishop Barnes and was the husband of Bobbie Burrell Barnes. Mr. Barnes retired from Springs Industries after 37 years. He loved his church and enjoyed outings and fellowship with his Sunday School Class. He drove the bus on many occasions. He served our great country in the United States Army during the Korean War. He loved spending time with his family and friends and especially his grandchildren. Mr. Barnes was a member of Grace Presbyterian Church, where he served as a Deacon and an Elder.

Mr. Barnes is survived by his wife of 67 years, Bobbie Barnes, two daughters, Cathy Barnes Lloyd and her husband, Crawford, and Jean Barnes Phillips, (Jerry); three grandsons, Crawford Lloyd, Jr., Justin Lloyd, and Christopher Phillips; one granddaughter, Jenna Phillips Brown and her husband, Daniel; two great grandchildren, Jackson Henry Brown and Jessa Danielle Brown.

Mr. Barnes was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers Ervin Barnes, and JT Barnes; and a sister, Mary Barnes McFadden.

The Celebration of Life Funeral Service for Mr. Barnes will be 2:00 pm Monday, April 17, 2017 at Grace Presbyterian Church by Rev. Marty Simmons and Rev. Howard Messer. Burial will follow at Lancaster Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service from 1:00 – 2:00 pm and suggest memorial contributions be made to Grace Presbyterian Church, 1026 Grace Avenue, Lancaster, SC 29720 or to Hospice of South Carolina, 311-B North Main Street, Suite A, Lancaster, SC 29720.
