Fred Worley Mullis



Lancaster/Gaffney- Mr. Fred Worley Mullis, died December 19th 2017, and went to be with the Lord. He was born March 29th, 1923 in Peachland, NC, a son of the late Sampson Worley Mullis and Mary Ashe Horne Mullis.
Mr. Mullis was a successful auctioneer and owner of Mullis Brothers Auction and Real Estate Company. He conducted large auctions all over the southeast.
Fred Mullis served his country in WWII in the 77th division. While in the army he was in five major battles and was wounded. He received a purple heart.
Mr. Fred Mullis was a charter member of Wade Presbyterian Church of Lancaster, South Carolina. Also, Fred was a member of the North and South Carolina Auctioneer Association, and was honored to receive Hall of Fame status for the National Auctioneer Association. Mr. Mullis loved his family and friends and was passionate about innovative business ideas. He enjoyed auctioning and networking with his many business acquaintances.
Mr. Mullis is survived by his wife, Evelyn Lyons Mullis of Gaffney, SC and brother, Sherrill Mullis of Lancaster, daughter, Dianne Mahaffee of Lancaster, daughter, Angela Mullis of Tarpon Springs, Florida, and daughter, Joy Guthrie and husband Shannon, of Gaffney, SC. Also, Fred Mullis is survived by 6 grandchildren, Carla Stanley, Alton Mahaffee, Blake Duffie, Jordan Duffie, Deanna Duffie, Chad Brown and 3 great grandchildren, Austin Mahaffee, Avery Mahaffee, Garrett Wilkins and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Mullis was preceded in death by 4 brothers, Carl Mullis, J.C. Clint Mullis, Marvin Mullis, David Mullis, Sr. and 2 sisters, Pearl Mullis Whitley and Sara Margaret Mullis Belk.
The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1:00-2:00pm, Friday Dec. 22nd, at the fellowship hall at Wade Memorial Presbyterian Church. The Celebration of Life Service will be 2:00pm Dec.22nd, in the sanctuary at Wade Memorial Presbyterian Church on Memorial Park Road in Lancaster, South Carolina. Pastor Paul E. Smith, Jr. and Dr. Ron Culbertson will officiate the service. Entombment will follow in Lancaster Memorial Park Mausoleum with a military service.
