Obituary

LANCASTER, SC - Mr. Carl Michael “Mike” Helms, age 70, passed away Sunday, January 7, 2018 at Carolinas Medical Center. He was born February 3, 1947, a son of the late Carl Lytle Helms and Mabel Jeanette “Polly” Crenshaw Helms. Michael was the husband of Rachel Cook Helms. He loved the outdoors and sitting on his porch drinking coffee with friends. Michael served his country in the United States Army. He served in Vietnam as a helicopter door gunner with the Firebirds.

Michael is survived by his wife of 50 years, Rachel Cook Helms; two sons, Eric Dean Helms and Zachary Stewart Helms; a daughter, Mikah Jeanette Helms; five grandchildren, Kyle Baucom, Jordan Fultz and her husband, Austin, Hannah Helms, Zoe Helms and Zayn Helms; two great-grandchildren, Rylan Fultz and Asher Fultz; a brother, Mark Helms; and a sister, Donna Rogers and her husband, Charles.

Michael was preceded in death by his parents.

In lieu of a funeral service, the family will receive friends and family to celebrate Michael’s life on Thursday, January 11, 2018 from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. at the home of Michael and Rachel Helms.
