Obituary

LANCASTER, SC ~ Mrs. Betty Louise Weeks Still (Betty Lou), 74, passed away
peacefully on Tuesday, May 22, 2018 after a long, courageous battle against ovarian cancer.

She was born on January 13, 1944 in Barnwell County, SC, a daughter of Edna
Ayer Weeks and the late James Buist Weeks, Jr., and was the loving wife of Dr. Roy A.
Still.

Betty Lou graduated from Winthrop College in 1966 with a degree in Elementary
Education and later earned a Master’s in Education degree from the University of South
Carolina. During her twenty-five year teaching career in the Greenville, Charleston, and
Lancaster, SC school districts, she inspired her students with her passion for creative
teaching while demonstrating the importance of compassion and self-worth.
As an active member of First Baptist Church Lancaster, she shared her positive
spiritual influence and teaching skills with children in Sunday School and various
mission organizations. Her love for teaching and desire to increase literacy led her to
implement an after school reading program at her church for children in the community
needing remediation. Until her health declined, she led the Rose Calder Mission Group.
For several years, Betty Lou was a member of the Lancaster Study Club and the
New Era Book Club. She also cherished fellowship with her dear bridge club friends. In
addition, Betty Lou enjoyed reading, camping, and traveling to numerous places,
especially to the Outer Banks of North Carolina for her family’s annual summer trip.
Her warm, loving personality, quick wit, and charming Southern accent endeared
her to many. Second to her love for the Lord was her devotion to her family.
Grandchildren were a great joy in her life, and she leaves for them a treasure of happy
memories.

Betty Lou is survived by her mother, Edna Ayer Weeks, of Denmark, SC; her
husband of 51 years, Roy A. Still; her daughter, April Elizabeth Still Roy and her

McGrath Still of Lancaster, SC; five grandchildren, Caroline Elizabeth Roy, Graham
