LANCASTER, SC ~ Mrs. Mary Virginia O’Connell Whitcomb, age 80, passed away Tuesday, November 7, 2017. She was born March 24, 1937 in Malden, Massachusetts, a daughter of the late Roy Edward O’Connell and Annie Helen Surette O’Connell McMullen. She is the wife of Carl Eugene Whitcomb, Sr. Mrs. Whitcomb was a homemaker. She enjoyed doing crafts and was of the Christian faith.
Mrs. Whitcomb is survived by her husband, Carl Whitcomb, Sr.; a son, Carl Whitcomb, Jr. and his wife, Kathy of Lancaster; a daughter, Debra Ann Whitcomb of Mason City, Iowa; three brothers, Buddy O’Connell, Bobby O’Connell and Johnny O'Connell all of MA, three sisters, Marilyn Olisky and Marie Love both of MA and Blanche Cardavelli of FL; two grandchildren, Christopher Whitcomb and Heather Marie Whitcomb; and two step-grandchildren, Tina Turbey and Richard Turbey.
Mrs. Whitcomb was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Henney O’Connell.
The family will hold a private memorial service at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to Regency Hospice, 250 Piedmont Blvd., Rock Hill, SC 29732.

I remember how much I loved you! You were my big sister and I thought you were so beautiful! You meant so much to me and when you got married and had Carl Jr.,I was so happy! I was sad that you then moved to Illinois! I always wished that you lived back here! I am going to miss talking to you! Say hello to Moe and we will meet again! Love you big sis!

I am her step-granddaughter. She never tried me like a step: I remember how she made raggedy ann and andy dolls that were taller than me as a child. I remember the christmas and the easter trips from wisconsin to galesburg illinois fighting through ice storms and everything. I know grandma kept her liking for seafood from the east coast, and she gave me my first taste of lobster. peace to her
