Sam Page



Lancaster, SC ~ Mr. Samuel Kilgore Page, age 75, passed away at his home on November 9, 2017. He was born September 28, 1942, the son of the late Samuel Walter Page and Adeline Estelle Kilgore Page of Woodruff, SC and was the husband of Margaret Lassiter Page.

Mr. Page is survived by his wife of 50 years, Margaret Page; three daughters, Tricia Barfield and her husband, Tim of Winston Salem, NC, Donna Shelby of Lancaster, SC, and Amanda Newell and her husband, Garrick of Charleston, SC; four grandchildren, Jensen Shelby, Kaylee Shelby, Connor Shumate and Ian Newell; a brother, Dr. James Page and his wife, Judy of Greenville, SC; a sister, Karyn Page-Davies and her husband, Tom of Woodruff, SC; and close family friends, Robert and Brenda Steer and Jean and Beth Bair.

Mr. Page was a graduate of Woodruff High School, where he later was inducted into their Athletic Hall of Fame. He then went on to graduate from Wilmington College with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Physical Education and History. While attending college, he pitched for the 1963 National Jr. College Baseball Championship team. Mr. Page was a teacher and coach for 48 years in the North and South Carolina areas and served his last 33 years at Buford High School before he retired. During his tenure, he served as Athletic Director and coached football, baseball, basketball, softball and golf. Coach Page was honored to coach in the North South All Star Game for football and softball. He was a devoted Clemson Tigers Fan, a 40-year member of IPTAY and he loved the Buford High School Yellow Jackets. Mr. Page was a member of Hopewell United Methodist Church.

The Celebration of Life Service will be 4:00 pm Sunday, November 12, 2017 at Hopewell United Methodist Church by Rev. Candice Sloan and Rev. David Inman. Burial will follow in the Hopewell United Methodist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 pm Saturday, November 11, 2017 at Burgess Funeral Home, 1800 Charlotte Hwy., Lancaster, SC 29720. The family suggests memorials be made to Buford High School Athletic Department, Memory of Coach Sam Page, Attn: Earline Bowers, 4290 Tabernacle Rd., Lancaster, SC 29720.
