Norman 'Joe Ben' Wright



LANCASTER, SC ~ Mr. Norman “Joe Ben” Wright, age 83, passed away Wednesday, November 15, 2017 at McLeod Hospice House. He was born April 21, 1934 in Lancaster, a son of the late Ernest Wright and Eva Mae West Wright. Mr. Wright was first married to the late Evelena Watts Wright and is now married to Mildred Craig Wright. He retired from Springs Industries and served our country in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. He was an avid quail hunter, deer hunter and fisherman. He served as an Umpire for the Dixie Youth Baseball and church softball teams. Mr. Wright was a longtime member of Oak Hill Baptist Church and is currently a member of Fairview Baptist Church.

Mr. Wright is survived by his wife, Mildred Craig Wright; three sons, Joe Wright and his wife, Melissa, Dale Wright and Dean Wright; a daughter, Vickie Sanders and her husband, Ronnie all of Lancaster; five grandchildren, Jason Sanders (Jennifer), Amber Wright, Amy Wright, Joseph Wright (Katelyn) and Alisia Wright; five great grandchildren; two stepsons, Warren Abernathy and Dale Abernathy, and five step-grandchildren.

Mr. Wright was preceded in death by a daughter, Jeannie Wright; six brothers, Baby Boy Wright, John Wright, Fred Wright, Jim Wright, Eulece Wright, Clyde Wright; and six sisters, Mae Belle Bundy, Ardeth Wright, Ruth Mills, Rena Beckham, Chloe Carnes, and Kay Rush.

The Celebration of Life Funeral Service for Mr. Wright will be 2:00 pm, Friday, November 17, 2017 at Oak Hill Baptist Church by Rev. Cliff Henson and Rev. Harold Cooke. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends one hour before the service, from 1:00 – 2:00 pm, in the church fellowship hall and suggest memorial contributions be made to Oak Hill Baptist Church, 6437 Oak Hill Church Road, Lancaster, SC 29720 or Fairview Baptist Church, 7519 SC Highway 265, Mt. Croghan, SC 29727.
