Charles Edward Langley



LANCASTER, SC ~ Mr. Charles Edward Langley, 87, passed away Sunday, April 1, 2018 at his home. He was born May 16, 1930 in Lancaster, a son of the late Thomas James Langley and Lunette Dyson Langley and was the husband of the late Katie Lee Horne Langley. Mr. Langley retired from the United States Navy after 20 years of service. He later retired as a Deputy from the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office. Mr. Langley served as Captain of the Police Auxiliary Unit, was a Mason with the Wannamaker Masonic Lodge and a Hejaz Shriner. He was a member of Antioch Baptist Church, sang in the choir and served in many capacities.
Mr. Langley is survived by his son, Charles Dennis Langley and his wife, Susan of Gaithersburg, MD; two grandchildren, Christopher Benson Langley and Melissa Denise Langley Raines; four great grandchildren, Allison Covington, Andrew Covington, Charlie Rose-Langley and Cade Rose-Langley; and a sister, Peggy Langley of Lancaster.
Mr. Langley was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; four brothers, Pete Langley, Joe Thomas Langley, Vernon Langley, and Herman Langley; and two sisters, Ruth Lloyd and Betty Rae McManus.
The Celebration of Life Funeral Service for Mr. Langley will be 11:00 am Wednesday, April 4, 2018 at Antioch Baptist Church by Rev. Trent McLaughlin. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 pm Tuesday evening, April 3, 2018 at Burgess Funeral Home and suggest memorial contributions be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 140 Stonebridge Drive, Suite 210, Columbia SC 29210 or Hospice Care of South Carolina, 311-B North Main Street, Suite A, Lancaster, SC 29720.
