Dean Truitt Elliott



LANCASTER, SC ~Mr. Dean Truitt Elliott, age 92, passed away Wednesday, May 16, 2018 at his home. He was born January 28, 1926 in Kershaw, a son of the late John Alexander Elliott and Pearl Ray Elliott and was the husband of the late Mary Celeste Collins Elliott. Mr. Elliott served in the United States Navy during World War II as a Gunner’s Mate, Third Class and was assigned to the USS LST. He was awarded the Bronze Service Star, American Campaign Medal and Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal. He was a 29-year member of the American Legion. Mr. Elliott loved Bluegrass music and was instrumental in opening Bluegrass music on Tuesdays at the American Legion. He was a member of the Arts Council, Breakfast Rotary Club and a Bluegrass Band. Mr. Elliott enjoyed playing the fiddle and the guitar. He was an avid Gamecock fan. He loved his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and just loved people in general. Mr. Elliott was a member of Rich Hill Baptist Church.

Mr. Elliott is survived by his son, Del Elliott and his wife, Jodie of Liberty Hill, SC; his daughter, Teresa Elliott Langston and her husband, Rev. Tom Langston of Florence, SC; five grandchildren, Wendell D. Elliott, Jr. and his wife, Mandy, Ashley Elliott Chicklo and her husband Brian, Bret Elliott and his wife, Erin, Lauren Brooke Robinson and William Robinson, Jr. and his wife, Teddi; six great-grandchildren, Dalton Chicklo, Collins Chicklo, Truett Elliott, Chandler Edwards, Tripp Robinson and Dylan Robinson; and a brother, Paul Elliott and his wife, Lorraine of Columbia, SC.

Mr. Elliott was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Celeste; his parents, a brother, John Elliott, Jr.; and four sisters, Lena Brown, Dot Brengle, Cleo Driggers and Betty Bowers.

The Celebration of Life Funeral Service for Mr. Elliott will be 2:00 pm Monday, May 21, 2018 at Rich Hill Baptist Church by Rev. Rod Yow and Rev. Alex Barefoot. The family will have a private burial at Lancaster Memorial Park prior to the service.

The family will receive friends following the service in the church fellowship hall and suggest memorial contributions be made to Rich Hill Baptist Church, 1557 E. Doc Garris Road, Heath Springs, SC 29058.
