Julia Bailey Collins



LANCASTER, SC ~ Julia Edna Bailey Collins, 99, passed away peacefully June 26, 2018 at Morningside Assisted Living of Lancaster. Born January 23, 1919 to Rembert Daniel Bailey and Ada Kirk Bailey, she was predeceased by her husband of 63 years, R. H. Collins, Sr. She is survived by a son, Robert H. Collins, Jr. and his wife, Mary and by a daughter, Caroline Collins Plyler. Her grandchildren are Liza Morris (Gene Moses), Catherine Reynolds (Mike), Christine Galano (Michael), Mary Caroline Hill (Rob), and Matthew Collins. She is also survived by six great-grandchildren. Julia was preceded in death by a sister, Lois Hunter and a son-in-law, Richard Plyler.

Julia was a member of St. Luke United Methodist Church for eighty years, a former Sunday School teacher, and board member of the United Methodist Home in Orangeburg. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and assisted Viola Floyd, Maryline Westenhaver and Rex Bailey in writing family histories. An avid gardener, Julia loved the outdoors and especially loved planting trees. She enjoyed playing bridge with friends and continued enjoying this hobby during her stay at Morningside.

The Collins family appreciates the love and support of the residents and staff of Morningside of Lancaster. For her last several years there, Julia enjoyed the company of a lifelong friend, Douglas Williams.

The Celebration of Life Funeral Service for Julia will be 3:00 pm Sunday, July 1, 2018 at St. Luke United Methodist Church by Rev. Bill McCown and Rev. Charles Phillips. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends following the service in the church fellowship hall.
