Myrtis Hinson McManus



LANCASTER, SC~ Mrs. Myrtis Hinson McManus, age 85, passed away at her home Monday, July 16, 2018 surrounded by her children and grandchildren. Born April 27, 1933 in Chesterfield, SC, Mrs. McManus was the daughter of the late John Henry Hinson and Tirzah Gardner Hinson and the wife of the late Effel Jack “E.J.” McManus, Jr. Her children and grandchildren were the light of her life and she loved each one of them deeply. She was a great cook and loved canning vegetables. Mrs. McManus was a very caring, loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She believed in the power of prayer and was a strong prayer warrior. Mrs. McManus enjoyed playing hymns on the piano. She was a member of Hyde Park Baptist Church.

Mrs. McManus is survived by two sons, Nathan McManus (Janie) and Arnold McManus; two daughters, Denise Workman (Tony), all of Lancaster, SC and Luanne Kennington (Marty) of Kershaw, SC; six grandchildren, Kenny Workman and his fiancée, Anna Henrickson, Charlie McManus, Chery W. Stevens (Corey), Carrie M. Brown (Austin), Brandon Mungo and Matthew Mungo; a great grandchild due in February; and two honorary grandchildren, Katie Brunson and Noell Phillips.

Mrs. McManus was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, E.J McManus, Jr. the love of her life; her parents; two brothers, John Floyd Hinson and Johnny Cole Hinson; and three sisters, Kathleen Steen, Doris Emerson, and Magdaline Autry.

The Celebration of Life Funeral Service will be 11:00 am Wednesday, July 18, 2018 at The Chapel of Burgess Funeral Home by Rev. Charlie Simpson and Rev. Wayne Emerson. Burial will follow at Lancaster Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends from 10:00 – 11:00 am, one hour prior to the service, at Burgess Funeral Home. The family suggests for those who wish, donations may be made to Hyde Park Baptist Church Memorial Fund, 1898 Flat Creek Rd., Lancaster, SC 29720.
