Al was born November 17, 1935 in Thomson Georgia to Mamie and Walton Palmer. He graduated from Auburn University in 1959 with a BS in chemical engineering and was a leader and innovator in his field. Never being one to officially "retire" Al traded in his business suit for blue jeans and along with his sons, started Palmer's Refinishing in 1996 until present day. Al was always giving back to the community and his civic accomplishments in Lancaster were serving as board president of The United Way, Chamber of Commerce, Arts Council, and Economic Development Corporation. He was a life-long fisherman who appreciated the outdoors and would usually give away the fish he caught to a friend or stranger. He was a natural with the Golden Rule.
